We are currently seeking an Apprentice Machinist to join our growing team in our Calgary office.
The machinist reports to the Shop Manager and will be responsible for various functions including verifying dimensions of products using measuring instruments, measure and mark metal and other materials, fit parts to mechanisms, and perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring, and conventional milling.
What you will be doing:
- Ensure all work performed adheres to all relevant organizational, provincial, and federal safety regulations, codes, and specifications – knowledge of safe operating procedures.
- Observe all safety procedures and policies and use proper protective equipment (eye, ear, steel toe shoes/boots, gloves, etc.)
- Willing and able to work overtime, weekdays, and weekends, and be available to respond to customer emergencies.
- Report all injuries, near misses, and accidents immediately to a supervisor.
- Keep work area clean and organized.
- Study specifications, charts, drawings, or sample parts to determine the machining operations to be performed.
- Calculate dimensions and tolerances and prepare working sketches if necessary.
- Verify dimensions of products for accuracy and conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments.
- Measure and mark metal and other materials.
- Fit parts to mechanisms and verify dimensions.
- Perform milling operations such as drilling, tapping, boring, and conventional milling.
- Precision operation of lathes and mills in the replacement/repair of electric motor components.
- Repair machine tools and parts.
- Set up and adjust production machineries/tools.
- Performing preventative maintenance as required.
- Read and interpret documentation, manuals, specifications, etc.
- Understand, perform, and retain various skill related training and operational procedures.
- Other duties as required.

What we need from you:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical courses in machining would be an asset.
- Willingness to enroll in and complete a recognized apprenticeship program
- Able to stand for extended periods
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Basic understanding of mechanical tools and machines
- Familiarity with measuring tools
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to follow instructions accurately
