We are currently seeking a labourer to join our growing team in our shop. The shop laborer is an important assisting role that takes up various tasks to ensure the safety, cleanliness, and organization of the shop, as well as the accurate and timely completion of orders/products. This position reports directly to the Shop Coordinator and involves both repetitive daily tasks and ad-hoc duties that will be assigned when required. Being able to multi-task in a fast-paced environment, meet established deadlines, and being a trusted team player are all essential skills for success in this role.
What you will be doing:
- Assisting in keeping the shop maintained, clean and safe for all employees.
- Helping to perform scheduled safety inspections on machines, tools and/or equipment.
- Adhering to all safety and equipment maintenance policies/procedures and directives given from management.
- Cleaning electric motors in the wash bay.
- Loading materials into production machines.
- Moving raw and scrap materials, finished orders/products and equipment throughout the facility.
- Cleaning various work areas and shop equipment.
- Attendance at mandatory safety meetings, and scheduled training sessions.
- Keeping up to date on safety procedures, and correct protocols when working with hazardous materials and large equipment/machines.
- Serve as back-up for Shipping/Receiving when necessary. This can include:
- Ensuring the seamless processing of outgoing shipments and incoming items.
- Responding to pages, telephone calls, and in-person delivery notices.
- Establishing and maintaining positive and essential vendor relations.
- Inventory management and organization.
- Sort, pack and unpack raw materials and finished jobs/products.
- Occasionally work overtime and double time as required and assigned.
- Other related duties as required or assigned.

What we need from you:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Technical courses in machining would be an asset.
- Willingness to enroll in and complete a recognized apprenticeship program
- Able to stand for extended periods
- Comfortable lifting up to 50 lbs
- High degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- Basic understanding of mechanical tools and machines
- Familiarity with measuring tools
- Valid driver’s license
- Knowledge of shop safety procedures and personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Ability to follow instructions accurately
